Latest Hanse 385 Handover - First Trip From Sydney to Queensland

New Hanse 385 owner, Gavin was super happy on handover day, pictured here with Commissioning Manager, Ross Turner at Bayview Marina. Behind the smiles his mind was buzzing with all the last minute preparations for his first big sailing adventure on new yacht, ‘stellar’.

You see Gavin’s first trip is a little further afield than cruising around the Pittwater! His new yacht’s home is Hope Harbour Marina, on the Gold Coast. So Gavin was meticulous in planning for those conditions and chose a shallow draft keel.

New Yacht For More Family Time

For Gavin the new yacht is a chance for him and as his sons to spend quality time together again. He’s thrilled that his sons are picking up their childhood hobby of sailing and they plan to spend many hours exploring the waters around the Gold Coast together.

One son joined Gavin along with delivery skipper, Morrie Morgan for the delivery run to Queensland.

How did they go with the first trip in their new Hanse 385? Read Gavin’s report below…

Sailing to Queensland

Sailing to Queensland

Here’s the lowdown of Gavin’s journey to Queensland. A useful resource for anyone else thinking of making the trip. A much more relaxing way to travel than the highway…

  • Departed Bayview Marina at 6.30am Thu 4 May 2017
  • Arrived at Hope Harbour Marina at 7.20pm Sat 6 May 2017
  • Effectively just under 3 days with 2 overnights

Conditions

Flat seas, not much wind and less than 2 hours sailing and motoring the rest of the time.

Fuel Stops

Refueled at Coffs Harbour at 6.30pm Fri 5 May, taking on 124 litres diesel (didn’t have to use the 20 litres emergency supply but I was glad it was there).

The 40hp engine was run at 2200 revs producing 6.5 knot boat speed at a rate of 3.5 litres/hr.

Electrics

All electronic systems were faultless (I certainly appreciated Hayden’s efforts on the Wednesday). AIS Tracking worked well (the MMSI Process was finally activated late on Wednesday)

There were no breakages or damage on the way!

Thanks Gavin. We wish you fair winds and lots of fun times ahead with ‘stellar’.
