Here's How Hanse Build Quality Yachts

Hanse yachts are built in Greifswald in Germany.

The first stage of the Hanse build process is laminating the hull and deck in forms or moulds.

Hanse use an epoxy based vinylester resin for hull lay-up.

This resin is stronger than traditional polyester so Hanse's engineers can use less of it and still achieve the same strength.

The result?... Hanse sailboats are strong yet light.

Epoxy based vinylester is more environmentally friendly and more resistant to corrosion than traditional resins...

This means Hanse yachts are virtually impervious to osmosis.

The bulkheads of every yacht are laminated to the hull AND the deck. So Hanses are incredibly strong and solid and well-suited to tough ocean conditions.

Every model is a categorised by GL as A - Ocean Going.

Blending Materials is an Important Part of the Hanse Build Process

Blending different materials together is always a challenge.

For example bonding the chain plate to the hull is not straightforward.

Hanse have done extensive research with the Fraunhofer-Institute into the properties of GRP (fibreglass) and metal.

The engineers are totally confident they can properly blend metal and fibreglass together.

Every Hanse keel is fixed to the hull with stainless (not mild) steel bolts and 20mm thick backing plates.

Your Hanse keel is staying with you!

Hanse Care About What You Can't See

There's lots about your yacht you can't easily see.

For example tanks, pipes, wires and fittings are hidden behind bulkheads and in bilges.

How do you know these items are well installed?

Hanse pride themselves on using highly skilled boat builders at every stage.

If you look under the bilges and in the engine room of your Hanse you'll see tidy, quality work.

Hanse place great emphasis on the accuracy check at the final inspection before they hand over your yacht.

Final Checks

Final checks are done in the sea (not a water tank) - since the sea is where your yacht needs to perform and this is the gold standard test.

During the sea trials Hanse check the water tightness of all the outlets and valves and the engine performance.

This final inspection is done not by Hanse, but by an independent outside company who are professionals in putting yachts to the acid test.

Then your Hanse sailboat is loaded onto a freight ship for her journey to Sydney.
