We feel especially honoured that we have received this prize in a country which is traditionally associated with seafaring “

This magnificent Hanse 548 was the first to arrive in New Zealand.
Named ” Masterplan ” as through a long career a yacht was the owners dream. Based in Gulf Harbour Marina on Aucklands North shore the owners are enjoying getting to know the boat. Small trips to begin with but part of the masterplan is to sail to the pacific islands.
Gulf Harbour is becoming a popular place to keep the larger yachts in Auckland. Windcraft recently opened a second office there to ensure support for our owners.
Another Hanse 548 is on its way to New Zealand but first it is being displayed at Sydney International Boatshow starting August 2nd.
Be sure to come and see this magnificent Hanse model at the show. It will also be on display at Auckland Boatshow in September.

At 2am on Saturday flares were used for the 5 minute gun and start – making an eery sight! ” We had big seas, winds on the nose – often at 25/28 knots that felt like they were straight off the Antartic ice ” said crew member Nick Jones of Team Windcraft Melbourne. Also on board was Hanse 385 owner Drew who took the conditions in his stride.
Hanse Group CEO & keen boat owner, Dr Jens Gerhardt, set himself the goal of finding a way to stop boat toilet smell. Four years later – mission accomplished! All Hanse Group boats built from this production year onwards will be toilet odour free for up to 10 years.
The secret is in these pipes – displayed here by Team Windcraft owner Anthony Bishop – who is probably wishing they were on his own Dehler 38…
Research and testing proved that 60% of the unwelcome odour comes through the standard pipes used on most boats. Much more expensive piping was found to reduce this only to 40%.
And typically – whatever the grade of piping – once it reached 4 years old that went to 100%…
Jens and his research team then discovered a project being run by the manufacturers of a luxury Italian boat who were also keen to banish toilet odours from their boats.
The result is these pipes- which may not look special – but they consist of seven individual layers, one being steel and one that is infused with vanilla. The producers believe that they will hold 100% of the smell for up to 10 years!
The Hanse Group is one of only two companies in the world to use this piping.
Lucky boat owners!

Wayne Ormandy describes himself as a novice in sailing but he seemed pretty relaxed when we met for a sail at the Tasman Bay Cruising Club, Nelson. His new yacht Phantasea, the first Hanse 315 in New Zealand, is near the marina ramp, prime spot, and moored stern-to so that stepping aboard on the lowered transom is easy.
“It’s proving to be a nice easy boat to learn,” Wayne says. “There’s nothing complicated about it. For people who want to become proficient sailors, it’s ideal because it’s easy to handle but there’s enough performance there to practice with and improve your skills.”
Remember the fun we had at the 10th Pittwater Windcraft Owners’ rally in April? There was an extra special lucky door prize this year, kindly donated by North Sails and one very happy winner – Mike Barry. Mike was presented with the new headsail and wasted no time testing it out on his Hanse 385, Elara. Here’s what he said,
“The weather on Sunday turned out great for our first family sail of the season and I had all these available crew to assist with the headsail change after we had lunch.. There was not much wind when we were heading home & it was all down-wind sailing. It is a very nice looking sail and, if it performs as well as it looks, it will be a great improvement. Looking forward to our first sail in a good nor’easter.”
In the Med this year and next. Caribbean end of next year, Bermuda for Americas Cup, eventually NZ.
With my wife and two daughters wanted a well built, reliable and safe, modern family cruiser that sails well and is suitable for shorthanded ocean passages to eventually make its way back to the South Pacific…

‘The new Hanse 315 is a yacht with a good finish, a spacious cockpit, much comfort and surprisingly good sailing characteristics. In short, it’s a hit!”
It was the perfect way to wrap up the Summer as 14 boats ranging from sizes 35 to 54 ft headed down to Safety Beach in the Mornington Peninsula to compete in the second Melbourne Owners’ Rally.
There was an impressive turn out of Hanses, Dehlers and Moodys competing but the main focus of the event was having fun on the water and enjoying the weekend. You can see all the photos and read about the event here.
There were a record 36 boats entered for the NZ Owners’ Rally on 20th Feb. A fabulous collection of Hanses in all sizes competed, as well as 3 Dehlers and 3 Moodys.
It was a beautiful day and there was lots of fun on the water as the boats made their way from South Rangitoto to Smelting House Bay, Kawai. Sundowners, dinner and prizes took place in the Windcraft marquee, set up on the lawn with great views back over the harbour to the owners’ yachts.
You can read all the stories from the event in the Rally Round Up here.
The dates are set for the 2017 Croatia Hanse Rally – 23rd June – 9th July 2017. That’s 17 awesome days to enjoy the benefits of sailing with company while exploring on your own. Choose from a fleet of current Hanse models – 415, 455, 505 and 575. And there’s a new itinerary – sail to Dubrovnik!
Judged by 11 journalists from 11 European nations. Here’s what they had to say…
“A family-friendly pocket cruiser the Hanse 315 has a seductive hull shape that proves a delight to sail and has the beam for a cockpit and aft cabin space. The 315 stimulates the small end of the new yacht market admirably. Space is apportioned wisely, with standing headroom and a great aft cabin. The Hanse 315 is a highly versatile and impressive new compact cruiser.”
According to the Judges
“The Hanse had a lot going on in 31 feet, starting with two good cabins, one forward and one aft,” said Tim Murphy. “There’s also a full head with a larger separate shower; space in the forepeak not only with a good berth, but also an area where you can sit down and change your clothes; and a full working galley.
And it was a fun boat to sail. So you have a complete package for a couple to sleep comfortably, cook fine meals and even live aboard for stretches at a time.” Read more
Great video of Wayne and Lyn Mc Master’s new Hanse 385 on it’s maiden sail. The name “Roller Coaster” reflects the journey to the final decision to “go for it” and buy the yacht of their dreams.
Port Phillip Bay laid it on with perfect conditions and we love Lyns’ smile as she tacks a boat for the very first time. Our Melbourne Branch Manager – Nick Jones – helped them fly the gennaker during the terrific sail to Martha Cove where Roller Coaster will live.
