Looking for an exceptional yacht that you can entertain your friends and family on? Like to sail fast with ease? Maybe you’re ready to Cruise North?
505 #102 is a fabulous 50ft Hanse that is now fully commissioned and ready to sail away for summer with everything you need for a fabulous on water lifestyle.
Chris Dickson, one of New Zealand’s most famous sailors has a 505 – great choice Chris!
If you’ve researched what modern design and technology means to yachts you’ll love the cool extras we’ve chosen. And there’s also plenty of potential to satisfy even the most competitive spirit!
As you would expect from Hanse this is essentially a good sailing boat – it just also happens to be very cool, comfortable and modern. The lines of the Judel Vrolijk hull are stunning and the clean, clear decks are the hallmark of the Hanse 5 series.
The cockpit is the perfect entertaining space. Your non-sailing guests can relax with a cold drink and not feel they are in the way –because they aren’t – because all the lines are led right back to the helm.
To protect you from the sun a locally commissioned bimini and dodger are included in the price – you can choose the colour and style. We can chat about any other local extras that might suit your sailing style – maybe a BBQ to swing out over the bathing platform or a full awning if you like to stay out of the sun?
We particularly like the helm stations on the 505. They are simply awesome. The pods hold all the gadgets you need right at your fingertips. Chart plotter screens, autopilot control and even your music remote are all within easy reach. The nav gear is all B&G – the ones with the really clear Triton displays.
The Volvo D2-75 will push you along with quiet efficiency. The 3 blade folding prop will get you out of tricky situations. The bow thruster will help you look like a pro when you berth the boat.
The proportions of the Hanse 505 work really well – not too big, not to small. Easy for two, fun for 10!
The bathing platform has an electric hydraulic lift. So whether you’re walking down the dock or approaching by dinghy – simply push the button on the waterproof remote as you get near. This platform will turn into your back deck when you’re at anchor – there’s heaps of space for the kids (and adults) to play, dive or fish from.
And when the family is on board you’ll appreciate the uncluttered side-decks. There’s nothing to trip on, all the ropes are hidden away and there’s plenty of lounging space. The teak feature on the coachroof – adds style but no work…
The bow is a great place for a hammock. You can stow this, along with all your boating essentials in the vast sail locker. There’s room for the inflatable, a genneker, an outboard, all the fenders, boathook and of course your fishing rods and snorkelling gear.
At the front of the sail locker you have access to the 60m anchor chain, windlass and the bow thruster. We’ve noticed that the bow becomes a favourite place for relaxing when you’re under sail. Because Hanse yachts are stiff the motion at sea is very comfortable. The kids can spend hours up here dolphin spotting or reading – and it’s quite safe even if you forget to tell them you are tacking! The self-tacking headsail simply moves over their heads.
As this boat is all about ease and entertaining we have gone for the furling main. In the upgraded FCL sails this means full length vertical battens which ensure a really good shape.
The main winches are electric so furling and unfurling the main is as simple as pushing a button.
Down below the Hanse 505 is like home from home with chic understated style. Yes it’s luxurious but there is no need for the family to be ‘precious’. The fit out is sturdy and hard wearing and will stand up to a lot of sailing and living.
The cream leather with the warm American Cherry timber is always a favourite colour choice.
The Classic stripe floorboards provide just the right balance of modern & tradition.
You know you are on a yacht but this one also has the feel of a light airy modern apartment.
The long galley with a view is perfect if you enjoy entertaining.
A large, front opening stainless steel fridge is standard. A 505 tempts you to spend as much time as possible aboard – so we added a freezer. The microwave and coffee machine are there of course as you would expect.
There’s a separate walk-in utility room, on the port side between the galley and aft cabin. This could be your laundry, workshop or simply ‘the shed’ – there always seems to be a lot of gear to stow on a boat doesn’t there?
As well as standard shore power we have equipped this boat with a new option – a freshwater dockside connection at the transom. This saves having to fill the tanks when you’re in port and using the washing machine & enjoying long showers.
505 # 102 includes the Entertainment Pack which is made up of good quality Fusion gear. This comprehensive pack includes docking station, cd, dvd and blue tooth link. There are a pair of high end speakers in the cockpit as well as the saloon. Sailing on the ocean with your favourite music playing loudly is bliss isn’t it?
Some like tv’s on board, some don’t. On a 505 the spot for a tv is on (or actually in) the island bar between the galley and saloon. At the push of a button the tv lifts up but is neatly out of sight when it’s not in use. The lifting system is in place and our commissioning team will help you make the right choice if you decide to add the tv.
The Hanse 505 is a very versatile yacht. Although you may spend most of the time playing in local waterways, the boat is ready to go away for the dream trip up the coast – or further.
We have chosen some great options… but of course you will want to add a few more personal touches according to your plans. Anything you need can be attended to quickly by our team of professional shipwrights, riggers and electricians.
If you’re thinking for roaming free on your 505… you’ll love this story about how the Thorpe family did just that.
The boat has been exceptional. It has met all the expectations we had hoped for either as a family cruising yacht or being competitive on the water in its class. A good choice.
Alan French – Hanse 505 “French Kiss”
“I researched so many yachts & decided on the Hanse 505 after viewing the 575 at the Sydney Boat Show.
I was drawn to the 505 by its ability to be sailed short handed given my family had little sailing experience, yet I could still club race it with a crew. The family loved the below deck fit-out & the wonderful open spaces both above & below deck. They were especially excited to holiday on the yacht at exotic locations & our first such holiday was in the Whitsundays last year… We had such a wonderful time together, my teenage children even voted “can we make this an annual holiday event”.
